Sarsaparilla, wild     ​Aralia nudicaulis

Blooms May to July.
Habitat: Forests
​Height: Up to 60 cm

Tiny unisexual or bisexual flowers  arranged in globular clusters (umbels) each 3.5 - 5 cm, usually in groups of three, under an overhanging 3-part leaf.

​The buds on the left were seen on May 17 2017, at which time the leaves were very small at the base of the flower stems. The photo on the right is the same plant two days later.
